To think of Lovelynch farm and the characters that live here is to experience an innocence and youthful energy that only the countryside can evoke. There is a magical simplicity in the day to day existence of the natural world. Lively Pygmy goats bounce through a field together, stirring up a cloud of butterflies which hypnotise. A Shetland pony whinnies as the horses are led by his paddock, his keen sense of smell awakening an ancient kinship that still remains. As the suns last rays caress the fleeces of lambs in the field, a great horseshoe bat sets off into flight against the glittering stars of a clear night sky.

In this body of work I have drawn upon the rich variety of experiences which unfold among the animals everyday upon the farm, to depict the wonder and purity of nature`s kingdom. I am constantly fascinated and surprised by the diversity of the animals` moods and characteristics. Just as the elements of nature shift around these souls, ever-changing the backdrop to their existence, so too do the animals` dispositions and inclinations. The scope of a portrayal of the lives of these animals is very grand, so I have tended to dwell upon the co-existence and harmony which is so present within their domain. I like also to focus upon the humour and cheekiness which often emerges when studying these animals and I think this is another strong element within my artwork.

Through these paintings I have been able to relive elements of my childhood, feeling emotions which hark back to an age when I was first captivated by the natural studies of David Attenborough. The workmanship in David Shepherd`s exquisite paintings of the natural world was also a great factor in shaping my passion for this subject and I now have the chance to put forward my own interpretation of the field.
